Robbie's visit
Trudi's brother Robbie came to town (DC/Baltimore) on business, so we met him half-way (in Frederick, MD) to hang out and have dinner together (at Brewer's Alley - one of our favorite venues) - thanks Rob, had fun :-) (here's some pictures and a short video of our fun day)

Hanging out with Trudi's family - McFarlane Christmas/New Year's 2010
Trudi's parents came to visit just before Christmas (12/23/10). Craig & Verda McFarlane flew into DC, stayed at Trudi's brother's (Dan & Susan) house in Northern VA, and drove up to see us on the 23rd. We went to a new Mexican Restaurant here in Carlisle, and went to see a movie. Then on the 28th Trudi's sister Angie & her new boyfriend Jeff flew in to town too. We drove down to DC on the 29th to hang out with everyone on the national mall. We started at the American History Museum, then had lunch in the waterfall cafeteria between the two art museums, then checked out the new American Indian museum, and the Botanical Garden. At around 4pm we left DC and headed down Wisconsin Blvd to the National Cathedral, then we had dinner at one of our favorite restaurants from when we used to live in Rockville (Fortune Star). After dinner we drove to the LDS temple to see the annual festival of lights. There was a live nativity set up outside with the Christmas lights, and inside the visitor's center there were several nativity sets from around the globe (I only got pictures of a few, there were a lot of really cool hand carved/hand crafted sets). Then we got to watch a jazz trio "Trifecta" perform six songs (video clips included at the end of the slide show below), what I didn't get was the witty asides the musicians made between songs, if you get a chance check them out.
McFarlane Family Christmas 2010
New Year's Eve we drove back down and had dinner at a cool Vietnamese restaurant in the seven corners area of Falls Church, VA (Viet Royale). Watched a movie at Dan & Susan's house called "The God's must be crazy" and then went to the "Watch Night" celebration with Angie & Jeff. We really had a lot of fun!!! Glad to have had a chance to visit with family during the holidays :-)

Happy Holidays 2010
Dear Family and Friends,
This last year we did something a little different for us… we started our New Year’s Resolution in October which consisted of changing ourselves for the better. We changed the way we think about food (reading labels, cutting out bread, s
Our results have been very satisfying and have yielded some things we did not expect. Gary has lost 18 pounds, Trudi has lost 85 pounds. We are both back to the size and shape we were when we met 20 years ago. The surprising thing is how we feel. Gary had some nerve pain in his left hand that used to hurt constantly (not good for a guitar player that uses that hand to fret
Throughout this year we’ve had some fun times being able to travel, visit with friends we haven’t seen in years, perform at some fun shows and festivals, and have some awesome adventures in the woods, at the beach, and walking around town.
A few of the highlights include: 2/27/10 Mizik for Haiti - a benefit concert held in Harrisburg (Bushmaster, Gary’s band, was the headlining act) - all proceeds were sent to the main hospital in Haiti. 4/24/10 Mechanicsburg Earth Day Festival - an outdoor music and arts festival highlighting
green alternatives, followed by an outdoor birthday event thrown by our friend Emma for her daughter (Bushmaster performed at both), and boy can she throw a party. 6/5/10 our friends Kenyon & Lucille invited us to go to “Mountain Jam” with them - a three day outdoor music festival - we went on Saturday, drove up to New York, saw Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeshi, Government Mule, Dave Miller, and several other awesome bands perform, ate falafels from the vendors onsite, and stayed over at K&L’s house (Gary & Kenyon jammed the next day). 7/24/10 Bushmaster performed at the Carlisle Bike Fest - it was right in the middle of the heat wave, but the stands were overflowing with all manner of cool bikers dancing and enjoying the music (about 4500-5000 people). 8/21/10 Our friends Steph & Marcus held their annual wedding anniversary party entitled “Fusion Fest” - what an awesome gathering of cool music loving easy going fun people we had the pleasure to perform for - and playing ping-pong with th

WTF Virginia???
So... the governor of Virginia has chosen to commemorate the Confederacy by designating the month of April as "Confederate History Month"...
So what's next? - "Hang a Nigger Month", or "The Klan's not all that bad Month", or "Slavery Wasn't Such a Bad Idea Month", etc...
Remember, those bastards LOST, LOST, LOST!!! And the reason they did is because people of all races stood up and said NO MORE!!! I can't believe it's 2010 and we're still dealing with this crap - WTF? I wonder how people would feel if there was a "Nat Turner Day", or "Colin Ferguson Day"... Just food for thought...

Williamsport really knows how to party - Rumrunners footage
First of all let me say that Jason and his crew at Rumrunners - really know how to throw a party - we had a blast! Also, thanks to all the cool people that braved the frigid temps to hang with us last Saturday, 1/30/10 - you guys in Williamsport are fun!
Jackie Szymanski interviewed me for Williamsport's local newspaper, the SunGazette, the article was in January 21, 2010, print edition - and can also be found online at:
http://www.sungazette.com/page/content.detail/id/538802.html?nav=5016
please read and let me know what you think, I think she's one of the best interviewers I've had the pleasure to talk to...
Jason Pfirman, manager and all around good guy, set up a camcorder during our show - simulcast it to the bar's in-house monitors while we were playing, and then posted a few choice clips to Rumrunner's youtube channel the next morning. Thanks, Jason :-)
Also, one of our new fans/friends, Scott, posted this video he taped on his cell phone - thanks Scott :-)
http://realityrun.posterous.com/video-proof-that-bushmaster-rocked-rumrunners
Thanks again to everyone who came out, hope to see you again soon - we will be back at Rumrunner's on March 13, 2010.
Holla back,
Gary & Trudi

Rude Behavior? What do you think?
Bushmaster (Gary Brown - guitar, vocals; Vinnie Hunter - bass; Greg Phillips - drums) start their second set at Delmarva Bike Week 2009 with one of their original songs "Good Life".
Usually when there are multiple bands performing on the same stage, the same day, there is a short 15-20 minute switch over time (for the bands to move equipment around). This day there was a whole hour between bands - plenty of time (and then some)... Watch what is going on behind us by the band scheduled to go on after us - Aeroforce (an Aerosmith tribute band from Canada)...
With that in mind - How do you explain this rude behavior (at the beginning of our second hour - two hours before the next band is scheduled to start)???...
A.) the fact that we played our own original music - and the crowd liked it?
B.) did Gary not mention their band enough (even though he said it almost every song)?
C.) did one of their girlfriends stare at Gary too much, or clap too much?
D.) All of the above?
What do you think about what happened? Has something like this happened to you or your band? Please give me some feedback...

Delmarva Bike Week 2009 - part 1
Gary Brown and his band Bushmaster performed at Delmarva Bike Week 2009 (www.delmarvabikeweek.com). From 2pm till 4pm at the Winter Place Park in Salisbury, MD, they entertained motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the country. Thanks to Kerry Mendenhall for organizing the event, Skip and his crew from Mirage Sound Co for doing such an awesome job on running the stage and the sound.
Gary Brown - guitar, vocals
Vinnie Hunter - bass
Greg Phillips - drums
This is the first of several blogs we will post from Bushmaster's performance that day, make sure you check out some of the other clips too. We recorded audio cliips too and you can find those on our podcast (www.podomatic/profile/bushmasterblues) and/or embedded in our blog (www.myspace.com/bushmasterblues). I tried to merge the zoom audio onto the video footage, but my computer isn't cooperating... time for a new hard drive arghh...
Anyway, the weather was perfect, the crowd was receptive and cool, and we got to see all manner of cool motorcycles. Michelle Oxley from the Beachcomber newspaper interviewed me ahead of time to generate buzz about our performance, click here to read the article. As always, I'd love to hear your feedback, comments, pictures you took at the show, your memories from the event, etc.
Thanks, we had fun !!!

Bushmaster in Berlin (MD that is - near Ocean City)
Hey Guys - even though the beach is closed now, and despite the fact that it was rainy-cold all the way there - we went early so we could walk on the beach for a few minutes before the gig. Surprise, just as we crossed the last bridge into Ocean City, the sky parted, sun peaked through, and there was a seagull on most of the light posts watching the sky change colors with us... Amazingly the water was warm and calm too, couldn't resist, got wet up past my knees...
The gig at the Steer Inn (www.myspace.com/thesteerinn) was fun too. We were greeted by a warm/supportive crowd ready to party.
Here's four songs from our performance for you to enjoy and/or download... Crossing my fingers that Friday's show (9/18/09) at Delmarva Bike Week (2pm-4pm on the stage at Winter Place Park, 6737 Blue Ribbon Rd, Salisbury, MD 21804) will have great weather and we will get a chance to swim in the ocean one more time this year... Hope to see you there! :-)
As always, please let me know what you think of the clips, all your critiques help me get better!
Hi everyone, I posted a new episode to my podcast, Garys podcast.
